How to Keep Your Cleaning Tools Clean

How to Keep Your Cleaning Tools Clean

After all, when your tools are clean, your house will get a better clean, too! Here are our tips for keeping all your cleaning tools clean.

It’s only natural that as you clean your house of dirt, grime, and other buildups, your cleaning tools can really take a beating. After all, from sponges to rags, and even to dishwashers, your tools are doing the dirty work of picking up all the unsavory residues to keep your home sparkling. This is why it’s important to give your cleaning tools a little TLC. After all, when your tools are clean, your house will get a better clean, too! Here are our tips for keeping all your cleaning tools clean.

Sponges

Whether you’re using sponges to clean the dishes or remove stubborn stains from your counter or tabletops, taking care of messes can leave your sponges looking dingy and discolored. If you use a sponge for long enough, it can even start to smell like mildew. But you don’t have to throw the sponge away: try cleaning it instead! Put your used sponges in a bleach solution. A gallon of water mixed with about ¾ cup of bleach should do the trick. 5 minutes in a bleach solution once every 1-2 weeks is sure to help keep your sponges clean and odor-free.

Washcloths

Washcloths are some of the most versatile cleaning tools. Whether it’s bathroom, kitchen, or outdoor cleaning, these rags can get extremely dirty and worn out. You should always clean your washcloths in hot water and detergent. You can even throw them straight into the laundry with your cleaning rags and towels.

Brushes

Scrub brushes can handle some of the toughest messes, so it’s important to keep them clean. It can be difficult to wash a brush with your own hands. Typically, they’ll need to soak in a cleaning solution. Try soaking your scrub brushes in white vinegar for 8 to 12 hours before squeezing out the excess liquid to ensure a better clean.

The Dishwasher

Many families rely on their dishwasher to keep their dishes clean and their day-to-day lives running smoothly. But over time, running your dishes every day can take a toll on these machines. Periodically, remove the bottom rack of your dishwasher and check the drain for any debris or residue. Once you remove any clogs or residue, fill a dishwasher-safe cup with white vinegar and place it face-up on the top rack before running a hot water cycle. This will help clean away tough grime and leave your dishwasher looking spotless.
