How often are you changing those sponges?
You already use a residential cleaning service to tackle the big stuff every week, but how often should you be cleaning up in between visits? Here are some tips to keep your home sparkling in between visits.
Start with the Sheets
Your bed sheets get used every day for at least 8 hours, so should you be changing them frequently? Yes! Change them at least once a week, especially during hot months when you may be perspiring more than usual. Make sure to use warm water and wash colored or patterned fitted sheets and pillowcases inside out to preserve the beautiful color. Your residential cleaning service may already change your bed sheets for you. If you don’t have to worry about changing the sheets weekly, make sure that you still make your bed daily to keep them fresh in between visits.
Squeeze Those Sponges
Your sponges get a ton of use in the kitchen, even if you use your dishwasher for most of the heavy-duty work. After you are done using them to wipe down your counters or get some extra sauce off of a bowl before loading it into the dishwasher rack, make sure that you rinse them thoroughly and wring out any excess water. Store your sponges in an open dish or holder so that air can reach them on all sides. This way they will dry thoroughly and not get moldy so quickly.
Don’t Forget the Shower Liner
The shower liner is probably overlooked by you and your family (but not your cleaning service). Your shower liner should be washed every week. Shower curtain liners made of vinyl, synthetic, cotton, and hemp can typically be washed using hot water and a mild laundry soap. Air-dry the liners before reattaching to your shower curtain hooks. If you aren’t able to machine wash your liner, use a solution made from 10 parts water to 1 part bleach to scrub down the liner. Make sure to leave your shower curtain extended across the shower when not in use to prevent water from accumulating in the folds and creating mold.
