Cleaning your stovetop doesn’t have to be difficult. No matter how grimy it gets, there are ways to deal with it. Two types are gas and electric. But when it comes to getting it clean after you’re done using it, you must consider whether or not it has a glass cooktop. Here are some useful tips on what to do next!
Be Careful with the Sponge
Getting carried away with the sponge can end up doing more harm than good. That’s why you need to be careful when you use it on the stove. After all, you don’t want to leave behind some nasty looking scratches that you won’t be able to lift. So what this means is that you should avoid using the scrubby side against your glass stovetop.
Don’t Use Steel Wool
Along those same lines, don’t use steel wool. While it’s a fantastic solution for cleaning other surfaces and items in your kitchen, it isn’t the kindest to your glass stovetop. Although you might think that’ you’ll only leave scratches behind, that’s a common misconception. The big problem here is the possibility of pitting. Food debris and grease can get stuck in these pits, and they can be a nightmare to clean up after the fact. What you’ll have to do is cut it with a razor blade held at a forty-five degree angle.
Let It Cool Down
Another idea is to let the stovetop cool down before you attempt to clean it. Glass, ceramic, and metal can all heat up. It’s no fun to touch them while hot – mainly because you might burn yourself! Also, the cleaning solutions you use will burn and evaporate, leaving their own stains to boot.
Don’t Use Glass Cleaner, Either
Although you’d be tempted to use glass cleaner, the glass on the stove isn’t necessarily the same as the glass in the mirror or in your windows. That said, the formula might not work at all. This is because the ammonia in the window cleaner will leave its own set of damages. Put the cleaner away and use white vinegar instead.
