Clean Shoes
One easy way to keep your floors clean, no matter if you have hardwood or wall-to-wall carpeting, is to take your shoes off. Make it a house rule, so that everyone else does the same. Teach your kids that this is also a sign of politeness whenever they go over to a friend’s house. Ask all visitors to take their shoes off before they come in. Another method is to clean the shoes that you wear. Some shoes can be thrown into the laundry, but for others, you’re going to need a bucket of soap and water and some paper towels.
Add a Doormat
Doormats are also extremely useful. Place them at every door that leads in and out of your house even the sliding door into the backyard or at the door coming in from the garage. This helps keep the dirt, dust, and mud out of your house.
Clean Paws
While the people in your family will be considerate enough to take their shoes off or help you clean, your pets might bring dirty paws back inside after frolicking outside. Use towels and baby wipes to clean off filthy paws, even if your furry friend doesn’t appreciate it.
Using Vinegar
Vinegar is fantastic. No matter where you need it, it can be a huge help. It’s less harsh than bleach and can perform many of the same cleaning functions. Plain white vinegar is great for hardwood floors, but you may have to dilute it before attempting to clean your floors just so you don’t leave any lasting damage by accident. If you have marble or stone floors, however, don’t use the vinegar. Use something else instead. The smell of vinegar shouldn’t linger, and if it does, then just throw open the nearest window.
