The spring and summer are busy times for the housing market. This is when most people are looking to move out of their current and into a new one. Plus, college students are coming home for the summer after the school year ends. If you’re moving to a new home, custom home or not, you need to know what to clean, especially if the house has seen previous owners.
Fans and Lights
Looking up may not be something you want to do because it can make your neck hurt. But when you clean, it’s best to start from the top and work your way down. That means the first thing you will want to do is work on cleaning the ceiling fans and the overhead lights. The blades on the fan can be especially dusty since they’re often overlooked. Vacuum the tiny openings and then double check to make sure that the housing is as clean as possible. Then make sure that the fan is spinning in the right direction: counterclockwise is best for warmer weather. Take down the domes protecting the lights and wash them off in the sink.
Light Switches
Whenever you turn on a light or turn it off after you leave, you probably don’t think about the stains you’re leaving behind. Getting rid of germs is the most important part here. To do that, you should remove the cover plates, disinfect them, and put them back on. In the meantime, you should put other switch plates on.
Knobs, Pulls, and Handles
The knobs, pulls, and handles of doors, cabinets, and drawers should be cleaned and disinfected as well. Even when everyone frequently washes their hands, there’s still bound to be plenty of dirt and germs left, especially when everyone is coughing and sneezing due to rampant allergies.
Floors
Cleaning your floors is a great way to help them look their best again. Vacuuming works best on wood, tile and linoleum floors, while mopping can also make a difference. Don’t forget to clean the baseboards, too!
